Books
Maximum Strength, Eric Cressey - This is an outstanding book for achieving what the title suggests. It has a 16-week breakdown of training as well as good images, reasoning and instruction on why you are doing everything. If you are going to listen to someone for strength, listen to a 175# man who can pull 660#. We use a lot of his teachings in my gym.
Omnivore’s Dilemma, Michael Pollan – The best book on food industry I’ve ever read. I’ve read it twice, highlighted and took notes (nerd alert).
In Defense of Food, Michael Pollan - another good one from Pollan if you are searching for more after reading Omnivore.
Green for Life, Victoria Boutenko - I take bits and pieces of this book. Specifically, how including a lot of green in your diet is hugely important for health and longevity.
The Paleo Solution, Robb Wolf – This is a book that completely changed my life and diet. It combines science and humor to make this a two-day read and you’ll come away enlightened. I’m not full on Paleo by any means but I love the principles: do not fear meat and resist processed!
Good Calories, Bad Calories, Gary Taubes – Taubes is a genius and this book breaks down exactly what it claims. If you are a bit of a nerd like myself you will enjoy the more scientific approach it takes.
Precision Nutrition, Dr. John Berardi – This is a great resource for those of you who want a plan laid out with recipes, how much you should eat, when, etc. I learned more about post-workout nutrition from Dr. Berardi than anything I’ve ever purchase. (I am also a paying member of this site)
Blogs
Eric Cressey - great direct, science-based strength and athletic performance blog.
Tony Gentilcore - strength training with hilarious humor and reasoning to back it up.
Brian St. Pierre - great nutrition blog with a lot of quick entries. Check out his three part dairy series.
Mark Sisson - the man behind The Primal Blueprint. Little bit less hardcore than the Paleo community.
John Romaniello – great all purpose fitness blog.
Robb Wolf - THE man behind the Paleo movement and honestly, along with Cressey the smartest dude I have ever read or listened to. Whether or not you agree you will be more informed after listening to his podcasts.
Nia Shanks - for those mentally strong women out there who want to be physically stronger.
Flavia Del Monte- despite the borderline terrible blog name, this is a great blog for women who want someone to help them with their lady parts. Flavia has sound nutrition and workout advice.
